Clients

Each server page generates a config for these clients. The guides below explain where the file lives.

• Claude DesktopClaude Desktop reads mcpServers from claude_desktop_config.json. Restart the app after saving.
• Claude CodeProject file .mcp.json, or add the server with the Claude Code CLI.
• CursorCursor reads ~/.cursor/mcp.json. A project can also commit .cursor/mcp.json.
• VS CodeWorkspace file .vscode/mcp.json uses the servers key. User settings can hold the same shape.
• WindsurfWindsurf stores MCP servers in mcp_config.json under the Codeium config directory.
• ZedZed nests stdio servers under context_servers with a command path and args.
• ClineCline uses mcpServers in its own settings file inside the editor's global storage.
• ChatGPTChatGPT connects to remote MCP servers over streamable HTTP or SSE. Local stdio servers need a client that can spawn a process.
• GooseGoose lists extensions in config.yaml. Enable the extension and restart the session.
• ContinueContinue reads mcpServers from config.yaml.
