Install an MCP server

2026-10-01

Open a server page and pick your client. The install panel writes the JSON (or the CLI hint) for that client, including the package version when the registry pinned one.

Claude Desktop reads claude_desktop_config.json. Cursor reads ~/.cursor/mcp.json or a project file at .cursor/mcp.json. VS Code uses .vscode/mcp.json with a servers key. ChatGPT only accepts a remote URL.

After you paste the config, fill in secrets such as API tokens. MCPpedia never stores those values; the sample uses YOUR_NAME as a placeholder. Restart the client if it does not pick up the new server.

If the listing has a deep link, Cursor and VS Code can open the install dialog directly. The link only contains the same public config shown on the page.
